BIOGRAPHY

Caroline Loftus is an inspiring vocalist and songwriter based in the UK

She started her career singing torch songs in the Piano Bar at Sydney’s legendary Albury Hotel where Drag Queens took her under their wings. They shared their glamour and love of tragedy and taught her how to apply false eyelashes! Caroline touched their hearts with the vulnerability and beauty in her voice and the poetic truth in her songwriting. Within months she had signed with Larrikin/ABC Jazz and began writing and recording with some of Australia’s finest jazz musicians. Not long after, exciting opportunities drew her to Hong Kong and then to London with its treasure trove of music and influences.

Since the journey began, live performance has taken Caroline from New York to Shanghai, Miami to Manila, Sydney Opera House to the Royal Albert Hall, the Hong Kong Arts Centre to Netherlands Dance Theatre, Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club in London to the Milky Way nightclub in Amsterdam and much more….

Along the way she has released three solo jazz albums, many collaborations and exclusive recordings for organisations like Harvey Nichols, BBC Children in Need and HK Society for Aids care. Caroline has featured on recording projects from commercial to electronic, dance to Cuban jazz, film soundtracks to pop sessions. She has recorded at studios such as the iconic Abbey Road and legendary Air Studios.

Here in London, Caroline has a busy live schedule performing with unique musicians. The "Golden Age" of Jazz and Swing with its embrace of Latin culture holds a special place in her heart. Having been inspired by women like Billie Holiday and Nina Simone with their depth of feeling, the playful skill of Ella Fitzgerald and Doris Day and the elegant perfection of Julie London, she shares a freedom with her weaving melodies, effortless sense of time and a heart that has truly lived.

She is the female voice of the wonderful Cuban Band ‘The Sugar Kings, who pay homage to the musical traditions of pre-revolutionary days when Havana was intoxicated with music, cigars, rum and the stars of Hollywood. The Sugar Kings and their original compositions were featured in the BBC production ‘The Hour’ and they recently released an EP ‘A lo Cubanglo’.

Caroline featured and collaborated on ‘Best foot forward’, the latest album from Internationally acclaimed Cuban violinist, Omar Puente

Caroline is one third of commercial songwriting collective Riveraire. Their ‘stories told in songs’ have featured on US TV series Charmed, amongst other syncs.

Caroline is the live music co-ordinator for Harvey Nichols at the OXO Tower and curates live music at a number of amazing and progressive establishments in London, who proudly understand that the gift of live music is an essential part of culture and life.
